Manage submissions, facilitate peer review
Book and journal article submissions undergo rigorous peer review to ensure scholarly excellence.
Peer review of books is facilitated by experienced assistant editors to help prepare the content of your manuscript for publishing. If published within a series, manuscripts are also reviewed in coordination with series editors who are experts in the field, supported by balanced editorial boards in specialization and geographical location. Since many of our books are published within series, decisions can be taken relatively quickly because a network of reviewers is often in place.
A growing number of Brill journals use the online submission service Editorial Manager® to streamline peer review. Upon acceptance, an article submitted to any Brill journal can be published as open access. Learn more: brill.com/brillopen.
Manage revisions and prepare for production
Following peer review, the same dedicated assistant editor facilitates any necessary revisions and guides you through the process of preparing your manuscript for production. We have even created our own typeface for our authors’ benefit. ‘The Brill’ typeface presents complete coverage of the Latin script with the full range of diacritics and linguistics (IPA) characters used to display any language from any period correctly. Typeset and proofread
When final and complete, your manuscript is handed over to our production department where it receives the personal attention it deserves by experienced staff familiar with working with special characters and non-Latin languages.
We have a reputation for beautiful books, but due to streamlining our book production, we also have one of the fastest production timelines in the business. In addition, we carefully selected a Print on Demand supplier that meets our expectations of quality to ensure that your book will never go out of print.
Publish and distribute
Published in print and electronic format, books, journals, reference works and primary sources benefit from our global sales and distribution channels. The print and e-versions of books and journals are published simultaneously. Four state-of-the-art platforms host the majority of Brill’s Online Resources, each of which give home to one specific content type:
Each platform has been built to optimize the discoverability of the hosted content on search engines like Google. Brill also has agreements in place with discovery services like ProQuest/Serials Solutions (Summon), Ebsco (Ebsco Discovery Service), OCLC (World Cat Local), Ex Libris (Primo) and more, to make sure students and scholars can find your research.
The marketing for your book begins before publication with a dedicated web page on brill.com, an announcement to trade partners and libraries in our Forthcoming Publications brochure and via direct data streams, as well as via announcements in our subject-specific email newsletters and print catalogs. We also promote new books and journal issues via social media. Once your book has been published, we make sure it is visible at relevant scholarly conferences. We also facilitate reviews of your book in relevant publications shortly after it becomes available. Other marketing activities include advertising via trade partners and societies, video clips of our authors and editors in action (visit youtube.com/brillpublishing), and online demos of e-resources.
