Giuseppe Veltri, Professor, received his PhD from the Freie Universität Berlin in 1991 and completed his Habilitationschrift in 1996. Since 1997, he has been Professor of Jewish Studies and Director of the Leopold Zunz Centre at the University of Halle-Wittenberg. His main scholarly focus is on Jewish Philosophy including political views in the Renaissance and Early Modern Period and he is Co-director of many projects funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). One of these projects, the “Transmission of Knowledge of Yehuda Moscato”, is creating a critical edition and translation of Judah Moscato’s sermons which is being published by Brill. The first volume of the sermons was published in October 2010 and the second is expected in winter 2011.

Giuseppe Veltri is Editor-in-chief of the series Studies in Jewish History and Culture (SJHC) and the founder and editor of the European Journal of Jewish Studies (EJJS) at Brill. The author of many books and articles, his last book was published in 2009 and is entitled Renaissance Philosophy in Jewish Garb: Jewish Thought and Philosophy on the Eve of Modernity. In 2010 Giuseppe Veltri was named as honorary Professor at the University of Leipzig for his work in Jewish and Religious Studies. The Jewish Community of Halle awarded the Chair of Jewish Studies at the University of Halle the Emil L. Fackenheim Preises für Toleranz und Verständigung in 2010 for its international scholarly contribution and support for the community of Halle.
