Brill donates over 500 frontlist titles to University College in India in partnership with SPi Global

Brill, the international scholarly publisher, donated over 500 books to Loyola College in Chennai, India as part of its Adopt a Library Program.
The donation of scholarly books covers subject areas in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Biology and is part of Brill’s Adopt a Library Program. Each year the company donates a collection of frontlist titles to one or more libraries in developing countries.
The donation was done in partnership with SPi Global, Brill’s partner in content processing and enrichment. SPi Global has offices in Chennai and Pondicherry and was awarded the “Employer of the Year” Award for 2014. The company recruit local staff and invest in education and training of graduates from local university colleges.
Mrs. Liesbeth Kanis, Business Development Manager Asia, who is responsible for Brill’s Developing Countries Program is delighted about the adoption and partnership with SPi, ”This is one way in which we can give something back to the local community. We help strengthen the educational system through the provision of resources and training, together with our trusted local partner on the ground SPi Global.”
The donation was symbolically handed over by Mr. Frans Havekes, Manager Content Processing at Brill and also the initiator behind Brill’s Adopt a Library Program to Dr. Jose Swaminathan, Principal at LICET.

Coinciding with the donation Havekes gave a presentation to faculty and students at the University College on “How to Get Your Research Published Internationally”. He adds: “The questions of the participants clearly indicated a need for more information on the principles and ways of academic publishing. Hopefully we can continue to collaborate on this also with the help of SPi Global in different subject areas.”
