Information for Authors from the Netherlands – International Law Journals
As of 1 January 2017 authors from an institution affiliated with the Association of Dutch Universities (VSNU) may publish research and review articles in open access in 38 leading International Law journals. The Article Publication Charge (APC) for these journals will be waived.
The article’s corresponding author must be from an eligible university and the article must be published on or after the 1st of January 2017. The regular submission and peer review processes apply.

With the University of Maastricht a different agreement has been reached regarding open access. Further details can be obtained at the university’s OA desk.
Teaching and research staff employed by or otherwise accredited to one of the eligible institutions as well as students enrolled or accredited to one of the eligible institutions.
In case of articles published by multiple authors, the corresponding author will be the eligible author. The corresponding author is the author who signs the Consent to Publish with Brill.
How to publish your article in Open Access
Submit your article to your journal contact person at Brill with the request to publish in open access and indicate that you are an author affiliated with one of the eligible institutions in the Netherlands. Once the article gets accepted it will be published in open access right away and free of charge.
If you submit your article through Editorial Manager, you will be asked during the submission process whether you want to publish your article in open access. Please answer this question with “yes”.
The fee waiver only applies to articles submitted to the above listed International Law Journals.
