Horst J. Helle, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
As a founder of humanist sociology Simmel sent several important messages, identified and explained here as referring to interpretation, evolution, interaction, and alienation. Simmel’s ideas on these issues are confronted and compared with those of Karl Marx and Max Weber.
Georg Simmel. Translated and edited by Anthony J. Blasi, Anton K. Jacobs and Mathew Kanjirathinkal, with an introduction by Horst J. Helle
Georg Simmel developed a "form" method for the newly revived field of sociology, drawing on the subjectivity/objectivity dialectic. While his book's organization differs from that of contemporary texts, his method remains implicit in the field to this day.
