The 2015 CIES Joyce Cain Award for Distinguished Research on People of African Descent has been awarded to Professor Ali A. Abdi, University of British Columbia, for his article “Decolonizing Educational and Social Development Platforms in Africa, in the special issue of African and Asian Studies, 12 (1-2, 2013) entitled: “The Owl of Minerva on a Baobab Tree, Schooling, and African Awakening: Half a Century of Post-Colonial Education for Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.”
