APC –Article Publication Charge; fee that covers publication costs, see Publication Charges
BPC—Book Publication Charge; fee that covers publication costs, see Publication Charges
FP7 – EU’s Seventh Framework Program for Research. A special Open Access budget has been made available for forthcoming publications that are a result of projects with an FP7 grant. See Mandates and Funding
Full – entirely Open Access journal. A regular APC may still be in place, but also a reduced APC or no APC at all, depending on the funding situation.
Funding – budget to cover publication charges. May be available via the university library, the Open Access department, or the grant holder if the publication is a result of a research grant project. Please see Mandates and Funding
Gold Open Access – making the published version of an article or book available for free online immediately upon publication. Publishing costs and income are covered by a publication charge.
Green Open Access – or self-archiving: depositing the manuscript version of an article to an institutional repository. Brill does not allow manuscripts of books to be posted. Please see our policy on self-archiving.
Mandate – policy by funding agency or research organisation requiring publications to be available in Open Access. See Mandates and Funding
Membership – Brill’s program for universities to ease administration of the Open Access fees and receive a loyalty discount on publication charges for their staff. For more information please see Membership or contact Brillopen@brill.com.
Repository – database for scholarly output, either hosted by an institutional party (university) or a commercial company (Academia.edu, ResearchGate).
Retrospective – making a book or article available in Open Access after it has been published, sometimes even years later. Brill applies special publication charges, dependant on the amount of time passed between the moment of publication and the moment of making the publication Open Access available.
Wellcome Trust – well-known funder of Open Access publications with a number of requirements. Brill is fully compliant. See Mandates & Funding
