Program Manager Journals

Program Management is a unit within the Operations Downstream department at Brill. The Operations Downstream department has the mission to realize products and make the content and the metadata available and discoverable at the right time, in the right format, and at the desired level of quality required by external and internal customers in a cost-effective way.

The Program Managers manage the complete overview of the online publications programs for Brill’s main product types – journals, e-books and reference works (encyclopedias, bibliographies, dictionaries and primary sources). They oversee all development steps throughout the lifecycle of online resources – from product initiation and budgeting through operations upstream & downstream to commercial launch – materializing in efficiencies and shorter time-to-market, better timing of launch moment, and ultimately in optimizing return on Brill’s investment in those resources.

24 hours p/wk

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Analyse, streamline, communicate, and enforce cross-departmental processes
  • Communicate internally about products in the pipeline
  • Coordinate the annual budget process for online resources
  • Track and manage milestones in the development process of online resources
  • Manage areas of publishing operations, including the following:
    • Track and analyse commercial performance of online resources
    • Oversee usage & turn-away reporting on product and customer level
    • Advise and strategize with Brill departments on areas for improvements and alignment with market developments

Whereas it is to be understood that the focus of this role will be on the journal program as part of Brill’s online resources.

Your profile:

  • At least HBO level or university
  • Knowledge of and experience with project management methodologies (e.g. Prince II / IPMA-C)
  • Demonstrated experience with content management and workflow systems, tools and techniques
  • Experience in publishing processes and affinity with academic publications, especially in the field of online publishing
  • Good knowledge of English and Dutch, spoken and written
  • Excellent communication skills, spoken and written
  • Influencing/leadership skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, the ability to oversee complex and interrelated issues (helicopter view)
  • Stress resistant and flexible
  • Strong commercial awareness

The job will require you to perform to a high standard, often under pressure in a demanding environment, and to respond efficiently, professionally, and courteously to all parties involved.

An online work related personality assessment (PAPI) may be part of the selection process.
