Brill publishes the ABIA Index of South and Southeast Asian Art and Archaeology,  an international classified bibliography.

We are currently looking for

Indexers for the ABIA
M/F – freelance basis

You are supposed to use your own facilities and equipment. You will report to the ABIA editors at Brill. You are expected to work independently.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • Creating records for the ABIA from relevant publications in consultation with Brill editors
  • Using the advanced web-based software to enter records into the database
  • Assigning keywords and classifications to the records
  • Searching out with a keen eye relevant publications related to South and Southeast Asian art and archaeology (in their widest sense)

Your profile:

  • Strong interest and training in Asian art, archaeology and/or material culture
  • MA degree or higher
  • Result-driven and strong organizational skills
  • Relevant and progressively responsible experience in indexing or related activities such as library work\
  • Excellent command of the English language, proficiency in a major language of Europe or Asia, such as Russian, German, Italian, French, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Chinese or Japanese.

This assignment is on a freelance basis with a batch rate being paid quarterly. All editorial staff are self-employed. The freelance agreement  is for one year at the start and may be renewed for longer periods thereafter.
